處於2015年的當代藝術家葉怡利又會從部落藝術中,尋找出什麼樣的靈感,將時間凝結的景物重組,來捕捉自然、物與人之間所流逝的虛幻時光....

從事藝術創作的近十年來,大概每隔兩三年我會出國駐村,而個駐村地的景物便時常出現在我的行為錄像作品中。
而這次的展覽分成兩個部分,一個是我於2011年非洲小島駐村與2014年韓國潭陽駐村的行為錄像,另一個部分是2014年接觸到部落藝術啟發我關於記憶中景物重組的雕塑作品。

2014春天我爬大山,台灣第一高峰~玉山,夏天藝術家駐村在韓國全羅南道的竹鄉~潭陽,潭陽有點像台灣的南投竹山鎮,是個小村莊也是竹子風景區,今年是我這輩子接觸自然最多時間的一年,突然有很多時間深呼吸,每天坐在河邊聽流水聲看風景,跟以往聽汽車聲或城市噪音有很大的不同,時間的速率也不同,但這一切的美景是如此的舒適卻無真實感。

2014年接觸到部落藝術,由部落天馬行空的作品中,如同青蛙人雕像或各式不同角色造型的結合與延伸,在偶然間開啟了這次的作品的繆思。於是我企圖造景造物將記憶中景物重組,是樹林裡的禪意,河裡的石頭,高山荒野的動物,亭子裡的人,腦袋裡記憶中的美好景象,但卻和我的現實生活產生了分裂的對比,這些美好的景物竟是我對現實的逃脫,曾經存在的美好景物卻無真實感,是種泡泡裡的虛幻,我試著將時間凝結的景物重組,造成時空的錯置,景物何在?企圖捕捉自然、物與人之間流逝的虛幻時光。

創立於2007年的小巴廊,致力推廣部落藝術和尋找與藝術對話的可能性。
小巴廊藉由不同主題的部落藝術展,來多面向的呈現這個藝術領域。
部落藝術( Tribal Art) 在亞洲是非常少見的領域,但在歐美國家卻已經成形有百年以上的歷史。
受到先前於北美館展出的《帕克特 x 藝術家─220件合作計畫》所啟發,期待透過藝術家合作的可能性,產生更多面向的藝術角度。



In the 20th century, master artists such as Picasso, Brâncuși, and Matisse drew inspiration from tribal art, transforming it into new artistic possibilities. Now, in 2015, how will contemporary artist Yeh Yi-Li seek inspiration from tribal art, reconstructing frozen moments in time to capture the fleeting and illusory passage of time between nature, objects, and people?

For nearly a decade, Yeh Yi-Li has been dedicated to artistic creation. Every two or three years, she embarks on artist residencies abroad, and the landscapes of these residency locations frequently appear in her performance video works. This exhibition consists of two parts: one showcases performance videos from her 2011 residency on a small African island and her 2014 residency in Damyang, South Korea. The second part features sculptural works inspired by her 2014 encounter with tribal art, which led her to explore the reconstruction of landscapes from memory.

In the spring of 2014, she climbed Taiwan’s highest peak—Jade Mountain (Yushan). That summer, she participated in an artist residency in Damyang, a bamboo village in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, reminiscent of Zhushan Township in Nantou, Taiwan. Damyang is a small village known for its bamboo forests. That year marked the most time she had ever spent immersed in nature. Suddenly, she had ample time to take deep breaths, sitting by the river each day, listening to the sound of flowing water and taking in the scenery. This was a stark contrast to the usual noise of cars and the constant hum of city life. The perception of time felt different, slower, yet despite the beauty and tranquility of these landscapes, they felt strangely unreal.

In 2014, she encountered tribal art, and the boundless imagination expressed in tribal works—such as frog-man sculptures and various hybridized figures—unexpectedly became the muse for this project. Inspired by these elements, she attempted to recreate landscapes and objects by reconstructing scenery from her memory. These included the Zen-like atmosphere of the forest, river stones, wild animals in the mountains, people resting in pavilions, and the beautiful images stored in her mind. However, these reconstructed landscapes stood in stark contrast to her reality—these idealized scenes became a form of escape from the real world. The once-existent beauty felt unreal, like an ephemeral bubble.

Through her works, Yeh Yi-Li seeks to freeze time, rearrange landscapes, and create spatial and temporal dislocation. Where does the scenery truly exist? She attempts to capture the fleeting and illusory passage of time between nature, objects, and people.

Founded in 2007, Xiao Bar Lang is dedicated to promoting tribal art and exploring its dialogue with contemporary artistic practices. Through themed tribal art exhibitions, Xiao Bar Lang presents diverse perspectives on this artistic field. While tribal art remains a relatively rare genre in Asia, it has been established in Western countries for over a century. Inspired by the Pact x Artists: 220 Collaborations exhibition previously held at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Xiao Bar Lang seeks to expand the artistic discourse through collaborative projects with contemporary artists, generating new artistic perspectives and creative possibilities.
