"Finding 39 Heartfelt Moments" Exchange Project

A heartfelt thank you to all participants! This year, we successfully exchanged 29 pieces, and we are delighted that everyone enjoyed this special initiative, finding fulfillment in the joy of collecting.

For the exhibition, we aim to showcase the visual resonance between the exchanged objects. Throughout the exchange process, participants traded works of various mediums—paintings, sculptures, photography, and even unique pieces like a chair combining cast iron and leather. Interestingly, the essence of this exchange was not defined by monetary value but rather by the intangible worth of recognition, respect, and emotion, returning to the simplicity of barter.

Economist Adam Smith (1723–1790) once noted, "Before the invention of money, people would trade seven chickens for a sheep or a bag of grain for a pair of sandals." At Xiao Balang, we see this exchange project as a way to find and appreciate meaningful objects. The exhibition pairs these exchanged pieces with tribal artworks, exploring new visual possibilities and dialogues.

True value arises from what we love. Without genuine appreciation, even the most expensive item remains just another possession.

Committed to promoting tribal art, Xiao Balang is thrilled to see these exchanged works find new homes where they can inspire and enrich daily life. Through this annual exchange project, we hope to introduce more people to the beauty and cultural depth of tribal art, allowing these pieces to spark new perspectives and emotions in their new owners.
