椅凳,是日常生活中重要的元素,在非洲部落是地位與權力的象徵。
在椅具文化發源地古埃及,椅子是帝王、貴族才可擁有之財產,三千年前古埃及壁畫記錄雕上鵝頭獸腳的凳子,足見他們對坐具的重視。在非洲,部落酋長一登位便不可以再坐在地上和赤腳。
許多非洲部族文化中,椅凳是極私人的物件,被視為靈魂的載體。因此,每個人都視自己的椅凳為珍寶甚至在一些部族中,只有部族首領、巫醫、權貴等人才能擁有自己的椅凳。在椅凳中,非洲座椅從寫實的、具象的到半具象、抽象的表現,純熟地變換和運用,形式繁多。據歷史記載,大部分非洲部落和文化始終認為,人類真正的權力是來自於樹木,河流,石頭和土壤或強大的動物,因此他們把自然資源與他們自己的想像力結合起來,創作出獨有的原始力量的作品。
椅凳以簡潔明朗的外觀,剛柔並存,是由一整塊木雕成的,多為兩腳、三腳,最多有五腳:通常,板凳支撐架上雕刻人或動物造型。在動物雕像中有一部分可看作是人物雕像的補充、修正或用來表現人們的某種特殊期待。如:喀麥隆的巴米來科人就將像徵智慧的蜘蛛,及象徵速度和勇猛的獵豹雕刻在所有椅凳上。
除此之外,在人們追求返璞歸真、崇尚自然的今天,很多現代傢俱也融合了非洲元素在裡面,那種樸實無華的美感增添原始的質樸特性,在衝突中求平衡,散發著古樸自然的氣息,與使用者的生活融為一體,使居室充滿悠閒、舒暢、寧靜的自然氛圍。

Stool is an important element in life, and it is also a symbol of status and power in African tribes.Stools culture is from ancient Egyptian, and stools is property for Emperors or the royal, In Africa, a tribal chiefs came to the throne and they no longer sit on the floor and barefoot.
In many African tribal cultures, stool is very personal objects, which is considered the soul of the carrier and everyone is depending on their stools as treasure. Stool is also becoming the power of the owners and symbol of social status. In some tribes, only the tribal chiefs, shamans, dignitaries and other people can have their own bench.As a stool, to mention the Africa seat from realistic, figurative to semi-figurative, abstract expression, skillfully transform and use many forms. According to historical records, most of the African tribes and cultures have always believed that the real power
comes from the human trees, rivers, powerful animals, stones and soil. African tribes, they put their own natural resources and imagination combine to create unique works of raw power.
Stools with simple and clear appearance, rigid coexist. It is made from a whole wood. They have two legs, three legs, up to five feet: usually it carved human or animal shapes on the bench support frame. The animal figure statues can be seen as a supplement of human status, amend or used to represent particular expectation of human. For example: Cameroon Bami curve spiders which represent wisdom, and cheetah , which represent speed and brave on the stool.
What is more in the pursuit of back to nature, respect for nature today, many modern furniture integration and African elements in it, so the original wood surface texture obviously, and make the simple texture adds original rustic features of beauty. seeking a balance in the conflict, natural atmosphere exudes simplicity, integration with the user's life. it make the room full of leisurely, relaxed, serene natural atmosphere.
