Birds have always been a part of human culture and a major source of inspiration, particularly for artists who have depicted them in countless paintings. Birds are also common themes in poetry and music. Picasso's famous dove is now universally recognized as a symbol of peace, and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is another well-known example. Picasso's first peace dove was chosen as the symbol for the first International Peace Conference in Paris in 1949. Birds carry significant symbolic and spiritual meaning. For example, the feathered hats worn by Native American tribes were once a prominent headdress, symbolizing power. In addition, the King of Swaziland and the traditional Maasai people wore turaco feathers to symbolize strength.

Since the time of Ancient Egypt, birds have appeared in the myths of many cultures. For instance, the Greek goddess Athena had a small owl as her symbol, while in India, the peacock represented Mother Earth. Birds are often seen as symbols, whether they bring bad luck, death, or are revered as sacred and used in heraldry. Birds have appeared in various forms of art, including painting, sculpture, poetry, prose, film, and fashion. In African tribes, birds have always soared between realms, guarding everything in the distance.

In West Africa, the Senufo people from the Ivory Coast created bird-shaped masks and sculptures as symbols to ensure the continuity of village life and to represent the power and scope of tradition. The hornbill, also known as the noble bird, is at the core of Senufo mythology. These bird-like figures were initially worn on the head during long dances and celebrations. The statues, with their long beaks and protruding bellies, symbolize fertility and are seen as carriers of life and continuity.

There is a deep cultural connection between Africans and birds. The universal image of the prophetic bird is comparable to the dragon in Eastern countries. People believe that birds possess an innate ability to see into the past and predict the future, symbolizing wisdom and royalty, and embodying absolute authority. For centuries, Africans have used birds not only for food and decoration but also for healing, to help navigate difficulties, and to address often unexplained psychological or spiritual matters. Birds have been used to treat physical and mental ailments, strengthen relationships, encourage blessings, promote dignity, empower individuals, and protect them from evil.

Therefore, prophetic bird motifs often appear in artworks such as stools, masks, and sculptures. These works can be concrete, semi-abstract, ornate, minimalist, and symbolic. In the modern world, the prophetic bird still carries its essence. Its serene and elegant posture strongly evokes warmth and subtly reveals a unique aura. When paired with contemporary spaces, these prophetic birds create a vibrant and graceful visual impression, blending the past and present seamlessly.
